This is a rare set of two 1920's vaudeville programs featuring LEO SINGER and the famous "SINGER MIDGETS" from B. F. KEITH'S THEATRE in Boston, Massachusetts and the E. F. ALBEE THEATRE in Providence, Rhode, Island.
Leopold "Leo" von Singer (1877 – 1951) was an American manager of an entertainment troupe called the
Singer's Midgets
, that were a popular vaudeville group in the first half of the twentieth century. He was responsible for casting many performers in the
iconic film
The Wizard of Oz.
The Singer Midgets disbanded in the mid-1940s, with many members returning home to their native Europe
(1) October 24th, 1921; Broadside (single page playbill) from B. F. Keith's Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. The vaudeville bill featured LEO SINGER and the world famous "SINGER'S MIDGETS" as the headliners. The single page, two-sided broadside measures 4" X 10 3/4" inches, is printed on a newsprint stock and has the vaudeville bill on the front and a diagram of the theatre's emergency exits on the back.
(2) March 3rd, 1924; Program (playbill) from the E. F. Albee Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island. The vaudeville bill featured LEO SINGER and the world famous "SINGER'S MIDGETS" in the musical "SO THIS IS LILLIPUT!". The sixteen page program measures 5 3/8" X 8" inches and includes the current vaudeville bill, wonderful vintage advertising and list of coming attractions.
The broadside has a fold across the middle and two tiny tears on the right edge and the program shows light creasing. Otherwise, this set is in wonderful condition.
