    The Orthodox Brass  Icon
    .
Boris and Gleb (in the baptism of Roman and David; killed in 1015) were Russian princes, sons of Kiev Grand Duke Vladimir Svatoslav. In the internecine struggle that broke out in 1015 after the death of their father, they were officially killed by their older brother Svatopolk, who later received the nickname "Okayanny" from official historiographers. Boris and Gleb became the first Russian saints, they were caned in the cast of martyrs-pastoralists, making them patrons of the Russian land and "heavenly assistants" of the Russian princes.
The stories of Boris and Gleb are devoted to one of the first monuments of ancient Russian literature: "The Story" by Jacob Chernorizets (Black monastic cloak) and "Reading" by Nestor the Chronicler. Many temples and monasteries were built in honor of the brothers.
