I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut song below.) ....... This is a rare autographed October 22nd, 1956 "On Stage" playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the JULE STYNE, BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN musical comedy "BELLS ARE RINGING" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production would open November 29th, 1956 at the Sam S. Shubert Theatre in New York City and run for 924 performances.) ..... The musical starred the legendary JUDY HOLLIDAY as "Ella Peterson" and included SYDNEY CHAPLIN, JEAN STAPLETON, EDDIE LAWRENCE, JACK WESTON, GEORGE S. IRVING, PAT WILKES, DORT CLARK, FRANK MILTON, FRANK ALETTER, ELLEN RAY, BERNIE WEST, PETER GENNARO and STEVE ROLAND ..... Note: The front cover has been signed by SYDNEY CHAPLIN, JACK WESTON, PAT WILKES and BERNIE WEST and the title page by an unidentified individual.
