    RUSSIAN ORTHODOX FOUR-PART ICON.
    The first half of the 19th Century.
    Dimensions:
    height is 10 5/8 inches,
    width is 9 inches  [27 cm x 22.5 cm];
    thickness of the panel  9/8 inch [2 cm]
    Material:
    Wood panel with a kovcheg (cut-back central portion), levkas (gesso).
    The icon painted in fine miniature of egg tempera technique against a gilt-silver ground.
    The importance of this icon is in its rarity of themes depicted here:
    At upper left - one of the most venerable  icon of All-Russia - Kazan Mother of God;
    at right are Selected Saints: Simon, Guriy and Aviv;
    At register: left - The Seven Youth of Ephesus;
    right: The All-seeing Eye of God.
    Condition:
    Good and stable state of preservation typical for the antique 19th Century Russian Icon. Two slats on verso are missing.
