I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare autographed October 8th, 1951 "On Stage" playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the ALAN JAY LERNER and FREDERICK LOEWE musical "PAINT YOUR WAGON" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston. (The production would open November 12th, 1951 at the Sam S. Shubert Theatre in New York City and run for 289 performances.) ..... The musical starred JAMES BARTON and featured OLGA SAN JUAN, TONY BAVAAR, JAMES MITCHELL, KAY MEDFORD, GEMZE DE LAPPE, MARY BURR, MARIJANE MARICLE, ROBERT PENN, JOHN RANDOLPH, RALPH BUNKER, JOSH WHEELER, RUFUS SMITH, GORDON DILWORTH, JACK DABDOUB and DAVE THOMAS ..... Note: The playbill's title page has been signed by Composer FREDERICK LOEWE and Author/ Lyricist ALAN JAY LERNER and cast members TONY BAVAAR and RUFUS SMITH and the cover has been signed by cast member OLGA SAN JUAN and Producer CHERYL CRAWFORD. The playbill will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity .....
