    EXTRAORDINARY CHITIMACHA SINGLE WEAVE BASKET, VEGETAL DYE, EXCELLENT CONDITION, C1890
    Exceptional rivercane single weave with tricolor of natural vegetal dyes including walnut, yellowroot and bloodroot. Fantastic cross design at center which emanates out through the entire basket.  The tiniest splints are used by Chitimacha basket weavers. This may have been woven by Clara Darden (1829-1910) and has a square to round shape and design similar to a basket at the Detroit Institute of Art.
