    Description

    Antique, Late 1800's - Early 1900's, rare Native American Penobscot Indian, coastal Maine, delicate fancy basket for handkerchiefs.  Made of ash, braided sweetgrass, and splint.  Some of the splint is dyed.  Measures approximately 10 1/4" square.  Inside is 3" deep (thick).  Splint hinged lid, with a 3 1/2" square opening.  Maintains two ring closures.  Original condition.  Seller has not cleaned.  It has light dirt/dust.  Noted conditions:  It has a small dark unknown mark, (see last photo).  The base has a tiny hole through one piece of ash.  2 1/2" long split on another piece, on base.   A few insignificant TINY stain blemishes.  In good, collectible, decorative, and useful condition.  12 photos are a part of this description.
