    Description

    Antique Hopi Indian Wicker Basket with Thunderbird designs.
    This
    used basket
    features
    4 multi-color thunderbirds,
    a
    red center and green, red and black circles at the rim
    .
    It measures
    11 1/4" in diameter x 2" deep and is from Third Mesa on the Hopi Reservation. There are a few missing or scraped stitches otherwise it is in very good condition with a nice patina.
    This basket is from our personal collection and was from the Mrs. J.W. Howard collection. Mrs. Howard was a prolific basket collector from the 1890's to the 1920's who collected over 300 baskets. The collection was dispersed in the 1930's. The collection number and identification tag are from her. We believe that this basket is circa 1910 based on her collection catalog and notes.
