    Description

    Provenance letter dated October 5th,1950 gives the history that this Apache water basket has come from the mountain areas of Catalina and on through the Oracle. It states; Buffalo Bill's wife ran a hotel and the Apache tribe used to trade these baskets full of nuts for flour, tobacco, and other provisions. This is one of the surviving three. Some of the pithing may not be solid, the handle is a single twig and there is a rope attached to the handle for carrying. It stands 14 1/2 inches high by 12 inches wide including the handle; the mouth measures 4 3/4 inches wide. The weight of the basket is 2 lbs 4.5 oz.
